KELVIN LINK BRIDGE, GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

Kelvin Link Bridge was to link the Kelvingrove Art Gallery with Glasgow University in a picturesque setting. Our £ 716,000 proposal in an open 1999 competition involved a then unique stress ribbon solution supported on an arch, which balanced the lateral forces. A 12mm thick 2.25m wide 105 meters long steel ribbon placed beneath a reconstituted stone deck acted as the stressing medium.

Developed with Techniker as structural engineers. The project was exhibited at the 2002 S.A.D.- EUROPEAN WAY(S) OF LIFE, exhibition at Palais du Louvre, Paris
