KHIAVCHAY GORGE BRIDGE, MESHKIN SHAHR, IRAN ( span 350m )

We were, and still are, one of 6 winners in the first stage of this open world-wide competition set in a stunning mountain landscape in a seismic zone in Iran. The client claimed to be “developing one of the biggest and most modern recreational projects of the country in the charming foothills of the beautiful Sabalan mountain, North West of Meshkin Shahr City towards the summit of Sabalan”. Our proposal was for the world’s longest single span stress ribbon, stabilised with lateral cables, connecting Meshkin Shahr City to the Sabalan Shadi Resort. The competition was very unusual - there was no direct or even phone contact with the client, all communications, including entries, were by way of Internet. The prize for the first stage was... a hand-made Iranian rug! Since 2007 there has been no news from the client and their website does not seem to exist anymore.
